Highfield Infants School was looking at ways to improve overall lesson experience and to advance attainment of their pupils. The Genee Vision Visualiser helped them achieve their goals and make lessons fun for the pupils at the same time
Initial impact in the classroom
The Genee Vision visualiser has been imperative for teaching as a whole and invaluable for all lessons in our school. The children are now familiar with the white board and have no problem using it themselves. The children were immediately interested in the visualiser and its many uses.
What happened during the project's implementation?
The Genee Vision visualiser provided a visual focus for the children and supported their learning from the offset and throughout the lesson.
The children were very enthusiastic and motivated to get involved in a mark making project where they could place a mark on a moving object. After seeing live demonstrations and the progress of their peers on the visualiser it really encouraged their learning. Their motivation for learning didn't end at school and continued once they reached home. Once the children reached home they made a note of any words they could see around the house and then brought their findings into school.
Back in school the children placed the words on the visualiser and picked out some of the sounds they recognised. Some of the children were able to read the words and underline some of
the specific sounds in the words which they had been learning in school and then successfully made a sentence. With the help of a visualiser as a visual aid the children could see the correct way to hold a pencil and achieve letter formation as it was magnified on the white board.
Lesson outcomes
As a result of using the Genee Vision visualiser the children could explain what they could see in more detail. The children also responded well to another school project, this time when a nest was brought into school. The class discussed what patterns and colours they liked, and this helped with developing their language skills. We used the split screen function to modify the
image and then we were able to discuss similarities and differences of the nest in the non-fiction book and the real nest. The attention to detail was evident in the art work they produced in the lesson.
Parents feedback
Many parents gave promising responses about how enthusiastic and positive their children had been about practicing writing at home since the school has had the visualiser because it involves all the children and they all wanted the chance to see their writing on the whiteboard.
